Who is the Black Widow?
Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff), played by Scarlett Johansson, was released on July 9, 2021. This was a look into the past and life of Natasha Romanoff and her very strange life circumstances.
Black Widow is a Russian spy trained since childhood who joined the avengers throughout the series. Like Hawkeye, she is a human without powers but has had intense training her entire life. This makes for one awesome character.
Black Widow grew up being groomed to become a “Black Widow” (group of global assassins). Black Widow’s were the group of spies created by Dreykov who was a high-ranking officer within the Soviet Armed Forces who became power-hungry. He is the main antagonist in this movie.
Where does this movie fit into the Marvel Universe?
If you have watched the movies, you know that Black Widow died in Endgame. So why does this movie come out after Endgame? Well, you know how Marvel is. They put movies wherever they want. Black Widow being killed in Endgame sucked so to bring the character back in a movie to get the backstory was good for fans. They also had an end scene that was mind-blowing and set the stage for Hawkeye, the series. We have an idea of what’s coming in Hawkeye from how Black Widow ended.
With “Spider-Man No Way Home” having launched, they opened up the multiverse aspect of Marvel. Also remember, the Avengers created time travel in Endgame so chances of Black Widow coming back are high. So is it possible Black Widow will be brought back? Absolutely. A few Pym particles and they can go save her before giving “a soul for a soul”.
When could they bring her back? Looking at the upcoming movie releases I’m thinking either in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” or “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”. They could do this in the next Spider-man movie but there’s already so much going on in that movie that I doubt they would do that so soon.
Should you watch Black Widow?
Yes! This was a great movie with a few parts thrown in that I didn’t expect. If you watched “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” you know another super soldier was introduced, Isaiah Bradley. The same thing happened in the Black Widow with the “Red Guardian”. They could make an entire mini-series on those two characters alone, especially Isaiah Bradley. We never learned how Bucky ended up with a metal arm until Isaiah was introduced.
Black Widow was a well-done movie with a strong backstory that I think is great for any Marvel fan to watch. It helps you understand a lot of her character and her sister’s character which will be a part of future shows.
There are several reviews out there saying this movie bombed but I disagree. It was action-packed, had a great story, and also had some good comedy.

Contrary to other reviews, I am going to give this movie an 85 out of 100. The official movie reviews were in the 60-70% range while Google user reviews were at 88% during the time when this review was written. I’m not sure what the movie critics were looking for in this movie but it is worth watching.
